Fragile goods are those that can be damaged when exposed to even minor mechanical loads. The following types of goods are considered fragile:
- Items made of porcelain, glass, ceramics, plaster, antiques.
- Some foods, such as eggs, drinks and canned goods in glass containers.
- Digital technology and electronics, some types of equipment.
- Building materials made of glass, tiles, drywall.
- Plumbing products.
- Live plants and cut flowers.
This list is far from complete, since most dangerous goods that require special permission for transportation can be considered fragile.
Transportation of fragile goods must be carried out with special precautions to ensure they are kept in their original condition at all stages of loading and transportation.
Packaging for transportation of fragile goods
Reliable packaging of fragile cargo is one of the most important factors in its safety. Basic packaging materials for all types of fragile cargo:
- Bubble wrap — used as primary packaging for all types of cargo.
- Wrapping paper — Designed for wrapping small items and filling voids in drawers.
- Foam plastic is used to fill voids, used in the form of a gasket that follows the contour of the item being transported. It is fragile, so it is not allowed to move freely inside the package.
- Corrugated cardboardis used for the manufacture of boxes and internal partitions.
- Wooden box is designed to accommodate goods wrapped in individual packaging.
- Foam rubber — good packaging material, used for filling boxes and boxes.
- Sealants and polystyrene granules, as well as sawdust and cut paper act as void fillers and protect fragile cargo from impacts.
Each type of cargo has its own packaging method, for example, bubble wrap is used for electronics and household appliances. The individual parts are wrapped so that they do not touch each other, then the product is placed in polystyrene foam and a cardboard box. After which the consignment of goods in boxes is tightly packed into wooden boxes.
Small goods — dishes, household items — Packed in paper or bubble wrap and placed in boxes equipped with internal partitions according to the size of the goods. Musical instruments are transported in cases, which are additionally packed on the outside in protective film.
During transportation, flat glass products are placed vertically with soft material placed between them, and the outside is protected with sheets of cardboard.
The rules for transporting fragile goods also include securely securing the cargo during transportation using belts, chains, tapes and clamps. For transportation, special equipment is used, which has devices for fastening in the inside of the body.
The cargo in the body or container must be packed as tightly as possible. Heavier boxes are placed at the bottom, and any voids between them are filled with foam or other materials. If the body is not completely filled, a protective sheathing is created around it, which prevents movement.
Loading and unloading operations must be carried out in strict accordance with the rules and with the participation of experienced workers. Transportation of fragile cargo is possible only by professional drivers who comply with the speed limit and perform smooth acceleration and braking along the route.
Transportation of fragile cargo within Russia should only be carried out on condition that the packaging has special markings so that during transport and loading and unloading operations they are handled in accordance with the requirements for the transportation of this cargo.
Transportation of fragile goods by air
When transported on an airplane, special requirements are imposed on the packaging of fragile goods. Thus, it must exclude the possibility of access to the contents of the box, and have special grooves or rods that ensure reliable fastening in the cargo compartment. The outside of the packaging must be clean and free of sharp protruding parts that could damage or
