The EAC mark, introduced in 2011, is intended to inform consumers that the product has passed the necessary procedure confirming compliance with the standards specified in the technical regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union. This sign was introduced to simplify trade relations between member countries of the EEC.
Currently, many products offered for sale in our country have the EAC mark on the packaging, which means that it is safe and approved for use throughout the Customs Union. For electronics, the fact that goods bearing this mark are subject to service and is guaranteed throughout the entire territory of the Customs Union is especially important.
Appearance and requirements of EAC marking
The EAC mark, the application requirements for which are specified in Regulation number 711, approved by decision of the special commission of the Customs Union, consists of the Latin letters “E”, “A” and “C”, depicted in the same color scheme using lines and right angles, having the same dimensions and together making up a square. Symbols can be printed on a contrasting or light background.
The minimum size must be at least 5 mm and is independently determined by the person who has received permission to apply it, provided that it is clearly visible and clearly visible on the packaging. There are no restrictions on the maximum size provided by law. The marking must be applied both to a separate unit of product and to the overall packaging, and is also indicated in the accompanying documentation.
The location of the sign for each product is prescribed in the technical regulations and must be strictly observed. It is prohibited to put extraneous markings on the product that resemble the EAC mark if they may be misleading by their similarity to it.
The EAC mark on the marking indicates that the import of goods into the territory of Russia and other countries of the Eurasian Customs Union is permitted, so the lack of marking is a sufficient reason for it to be detained at the border.
If the EAC mark of conformity was applied to goods that are not subject to certification, this may also cause additional problems. You can determine what documentation is required for a particular type of goods using the technical regulations of the Customs Union.
If, during customs clearance, it is revealed that the EAC marking on the packaging was applied without reason, the entrepreneur may be fined a significant amount, and if the violation is repeated, the goods will be confiscated. Penalties can also be expected if there is no marking, it is applied in the wrong place, or if its type does not comply with the regulations.
In addition, the goods will be delayed for 1-2 months until a decision is made, which will inevitably entail additional costs. At the end of this period, you will have to correct violations in the labeling of the cargo and resubmit documents for customs clearance.
How to avoid problems with labeling
When preparing for the certification procedure or declaration of goods, you need to clearly define the information that needs to be specified. The certifier must check the labeling and indicate if there are any deficiencies, after which a sample label is sent to the seller for application to the packaging.
Before sending the cargo, you need to make sure that everything was done correctly and in accordance with the specialist’s recommendations.
It is very important to ensure that the packaging of the goods does not contain any foreign marks that could remain from previous deliveries, which happens when it is reused.
It is possible to check the presence of markings on goods and their application at the customs warehouse if the declaration for them has not yet been submitted. This is associated with additional costs, but can prevent further problems when the seller's integrity is not certain.
